Rock music was no longer a fad, but had become a way of life for most teenagers. Leon Uris book entitled "Exodus" told the story of Israel, the little country
that could. Ford finally flopped. After the 1950s, things would never quite be the same again. For the most part, it was a time when America would lose much
of its longheld "innocence." Previous to the 1950s, most values were reflective of what we now call "traditional." Subsequent to the fifties, they everything became "contemporary." It
was this one particular decade that represented the dividing line for such judgment. And it represented such in everything that we did; from how we thought, to how we
acted, to how we dressed... It was in the 1950s, that we first began to see the rebellious look. This was to be the first
decade that families started to pull apart somewhat. Cars were more common and adolescents were spending much more time out on their own in social situations. More "loose,"
provocative clothing was acceptable. For perhaps the first time ever, people dressed to reflect what they were feeling. In doing so, they were a representation of their era.
