cartoons that are available on the Internet and argues that the common thread (sorry) among them, except for the last, is that readers have to know something about the fashion
industry to make sense of them. Discussion There are four cartoons worth a second look. The first shows a man sitting in an easy chair. The chair is
covered with a striped fabric; the curtains are striped; the rug is striped; the ottoman is covered in a striped fabric; the wallpaper is striped; the curtains are striped; even
the coffee table has a striped cover on it. But the main is wearing a plaid suit. There is a sign hanging on the wall: "The wrong
suit." (Fashion designer cartoon 7). This is obviously a sight gag, but really only makes sense to people who know one of the oldest rules in fashion: you cant
mix plaids and stripes. The second cartoon shows a woman wheeling a stroller out of a shop labeled "Designer Baby Wear"; the infant is holding a bag with the slogan
"Gucci Gucci Goo" on it (Fashion designer cartoon 4). Here, the fun is in the play on the designers name, and on the idea of baby talk. Instead
of "coochy-coochy-coo" we have "Gucci-Gucci-Goo." The sense of play is also found in the fact that they both rhyme, with each other as well as internally; and in the
idea that anyone would by Gucci for an infant, even if he designed such clothing. The third cartoon will appeal to anyone who is sick of runway models and their
weird walk, as well as the fact that the clothes they wear will only fit someone whos six feet tall and weighs 80 pounds. In this cartoon, the runway
