in a fantasy world, or in a world where their dreams consume them and they find it hard to deal with the real world. There are many levels and perspectives
concerning the fantasy world seen in both of these plays. The following paper examines the fantasy presentation in each play separately and then compares and contrasts them together.
Death of a Salesman For the most part the individual who lives in a fantasy world, and a dream like state, is Willy.
While his wife Linda could be said to be a woman who supports his fantasy and lives in one herself, she is generally very realistic and grounded despite the fact
she supports her husband in everything he is and does. As such the analysis will focus on Willy and his fantasy world.
One author, or critic, notes that, "Willy is in a state of mental hyperactivity. His mind is overacting and he cannot see things clearly" (SkyMinds.net). He has ultimately spent his
entire life living by a particular creed, one that is associated with the American Dream wherein he can work hard and then achieve everything he ever wanted. But, he has
slowly come to a point where he realizes he is out of time and "His mind has run out of control. He is confused and no longer able to make
sense of reality" (SkyMinds.net). This particular critic notes how Willy mistakes a Studebaker car for his old Chevy car (SkyMinds.net). In essence,
