Alcoholism and other types of drug addictions impact not just those that suffer from the disease but also their relatives. Drug abuse is
associated with a lowered standard of living, numerous health impacts, increased violence in the family, a higher propensity for divorce, and many other problems. Just as therapeutic programs are
important for the alcoholic, relative therapy is important. Addiction can be caused by either a physical or psychological dependence on drugs (Hanson,
2006). Addiction is distinguished from terms such as "substance abuse" in that addiction is substance dependence (Hanson, 2006, 57). A users addiction is evidenced by "continuous use despite
