times when they are very sick, with the unpredictability of the episodes adding to the stress of caring for them. Chronic illnesses can also range from those that are relatively
mild in most cases, such as asthma, to those that are life-threatening, such as lupus. Introduction of Chronic Illness: The literature that will be discussed in this paper comes
from various databases, and was located using the search parameters "impact +chronic illness + family"; there appear to be a good many articles on asthma. Whether this indicates that asthma
is a frequently-occurring disease or simply that the research databases had a lot of articles about it is not clear. However, there were a suitable number of articles that discussed
the impact of any chronic illness on the family structure, which is what we need. (If the student wants to use a particular family from their own experience, they will
have to include that information; there are several points at which they can interject specific case studies.) Here, we are asked to describe the client, the illness, the epidemiology and
perform a literature review. Since the paper deals with how families cope with chronic illness, and no illness was specified, it is not possible to trace epidemiology since we are
dealing with more than one illness. Likewise, each article discusses a different family; if the student decides to select one to concentrate on, that information can be relayed here as
well. The literature review will perhaps provide a direction for the rest of the paper. The first article is a study by Berge, Patterson Rueter that seeks to correct limitations
