changed the face of society, as well as posing problems for the legal system. This paper considers three matters: how human cloning might affect family law; the problems and promises
of integrated courts; and the conflict that arises when a birth mother wants to give up her infant but the father does not. Discussion Problems with human cloning in regard
to family law: The question that arises here is primarily one of identity. When a child is born naturally he or she is comprised of DNA and other traits from
both the mother and the father. But where does a clone come from? It can be grown from a single cell; if that cell comes from the male, does that
mean the clone is a son but his mother has no input at all? Likewise, if the cell is from the mother, what is the fathers role in creating this
new life? This fundamental question of identity may have serious legal complications if the family breaks apart. Another objection is raised, predictably, by Alfonso Cardinal Lopez Trujillo, who is President
of the Pontifical Council for the Family at the Vatican. He states flatly that the "cloning of human embryos is contrary to the dignity of the family" (2006, p. 297).
It may seem counterintuitive to mix religion and law, but the Roman Catholic Church is still an extremely powerful organization, and it adamantly opposes human cloning. The Cardinals objection to
