from their families. Parents need to know how to balance between being supportive and being a helicopter parent, so that their children grow up knowing they have someone to turn
to but can also function on their own when older. Without proper support, parents can be a source of stress on a student. Academically, it is beneficial to a student
to know that if they need help in a subject, they can turn to their parents. While the parent may not know the answer to the problem, the parent should
be able to guide the child in the direction of the answer, be it another person, in a book, or an internet source. Proper support also means not being
a helicopter parent. If too much importance is stressed on grades, then students may suffer under that amount of stress (Murray-Harvey & Slee, 2007). If a parent feels an "A"
is more important than really understanding a lesson, then theres a chance their child will learn the lesson long enough to pass but not retain the information for long. The
additional stress will affect the students psychological health and possibly their self-esteem. Students are less likely to be depressed, aggressive, or apathetic when the relationships with people surrounding them come
across as supportive instead of stressful (Murray-Harvey & Slee, 2007). By showing that they support and can advise their children in all aspects of life, including relationships with teachers and
peers, parents become a trustworthy and non-stressful source for information. When students are not stressed about issues outside the classroom, they are able to focus more on the task at
