these issues often comes the involvement of schools, for schools are the place where young children spend the most time. As such the schools find it necessary to address social
issues in the helps of improving the school environment, the children, and their families. The following paper discusses three of the many social issues present today. Those issues are religion
and prayer, the war in Iraq, and violence in schools. Religion and Prayers While many people may not imagine that prayer in schools is a problem anymore, now
that prayer is not allowed in schools, religion and prayers in schools is still a very serious issue for many families with young children. This is evident in the recent
ruling wherein the name of God was argued as being wrong in the Pledge of Allegiance in schools. This illustrates that the tensions between religion and secular realities is still
strong. In looking at such a social condition from the most simplistic standpoint, how can we tell our children that it is wrong to pray in schools while our nations
currency says "In God We Trust"? This can be a very confusing topic for many families who are faithful in one religion or another and with the nation becoming
more of a culturally mixed country we see more and more religious diversity, further confusing the matter for young children. Now, while this may appear to be an issue that
concerns only families, and not schools, with young children they may not understand that prayer or perhaps even talking about God in some schools, is illegal or forbidden. There may
