does not mean that someone in some city was not incredibly famous at one time for doing nothing, or for doing something like putting wine in a container of water,
or something equally as pointless in relationship to history and fame. People get noticed for a variety of reasons in society today, and it is likely that people did the
same since the beginning of time. With that in mind the following paper answers, or addresses, four different perspectives, posed by the student requesting this paper, as they pertain to
fame, success, and failure. Fame in the Roman Empire The first topic involves a discussion of the nature of fame during the Roman Empire as seen in the
essay Public Men and the Fall of the Roman Republic by Leo Braudy. The author indicates that there were perhaps many people such as Alexander, but he somehow gained the
fame. The author also notes that people gained fame through doing something for the good of all and that holding onto, or insisting on privacy, was simply not accepted or
seen as trustworthy. It is also noted that just being from a particular city could prove powerful in terms of holding on to fame as a man would be
proud and noted for whatever city he came from. To be from Rome was a very powerful position because Rome was considered to be the greatest city of them all.
