learn by observing others which involves modeling and imitating. The observations may be internalized, which becomes part of the personality. Purposeful behavior has to do with a persons capacity to
anticipate what may happen, plan and set goals, all of which influences personality development. Self-analysis involves internal processes that monitor ones thoughts and actions. Based the analysis, a person may
change their goals or even their values, hence, personality development is affected (Plotnik and Kouyoumdjian, 2010). Scientists estimate that genetic factors contribute about 40 percent to the development of personality.
About 27 percent of ones personality is related to how genetic factors react and relate to ones own environment. These are referred to as non-shared environmental factors (Plotnik and Kouyoumdjian,
2010). About 7 percent of the influence on personality development is related to shared environmental factors, such as shared family experiences and parenting. About 26 percent of the factors that
influence personality development are not known (Plotnik and Kouyoumdjian, 2010). Social activist groups teach others about their cause. For example, an environmental group teaches the values of taking care of
the environment. A childs parents belong to the group and the child learns at an early age the importance of taking care of the environment. The child observes his parents
involved in these kinds of activities and adopts them himself. He becomes an environmentalist. This is an example of how cognition would shape the childs personality. Scientists have discovered that
