a business in a third-world country. The intent of the business is to make a profit as well as to provide social and economic benefits in this third-world nation. In
addition to a $7 million capital investment, other start-up capital would total $5 million. There are a few questions that need to be answered before the business can be launched.
For one thing, how will the operation be financed? What cost of capital will be incurred - and why? And finally, how would this business be promoted in a cost-effective
way? When it comes to funding and financing the business, a loan or sale of shares isnt in the equation - we
can safely assume that banks are not willing to lend to a high-risk venture in a developing country. There are, however, ways in which the business can be funded, depending
on the business type. Grants are typically the first place one can go - and if the host nation is one that
is actively encouraging foreign businesses, the government is a good place to start as well. Many grant programs provide funding for companies that are trying to make a difference for
the local population. Also, depending on the business regulations of the country, finding a silent partner or a joint-venture arrangement could
also help with the financing. The partner or entity could either be local, or another foreign entity also wanting to make a difference.
A third road to consider on the funding end could be partnering with a larger corporation that has a strong corporate social responsibility program - or wants to start
