this paper, the writer has been asked to define the four functions of management and to explain how each function relates to the writers own organization. As we were not
provided with a specific organization, well focus on a nonprofit organization that offers help to homeless animals. The four functions of management
- planning, organizing, leading and controlling - can be done in a variety of ways. When a manager plans, he typically determines
what the organizations goals are, and how those goals are achieved (Rothbauer-Wanish, 2009). For our organization, the goal is to save a certain number of homeless animals and find them
good homes. The goal, in this particular instance, may be to find 50 good homes for abandoned pets. The manager, during the planning phase, needs to determine if his organization
is up to the task. Even before he begins the organizing phase, he needs to focus on what will be required to reach the goal of a 50-pet placement, and
compare that goal to what was accomplished the year before. He may also focus on lessons learned from the year before, to note what worked and what might not have
been quite as successful. Then hell have his goal in mind, and the steps that he and his organization will take to meet that particular goal.
