What are the costs and risks of compliance versus noncompliance? Developing a code of ethics compliance brings a lot of benefits. For one thing, it makes Masters a lot more comfortable with McBride (if Masters were to get his hands on some of Hugh McBrides memos, hed probably change his mind in a hurry about being willing to invest in the company). Furthermore, as Blodgett and Carlson (1997) have pointed out, in this day and age in which companies are under increasing risk of litigation due to just about everything, having a code of ethics in place (especially with general liability prevention) is probably not a bad idea.
