over the years there have been several elements which have made that film successful. In the movie, Groundhog Day, staring Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell, while it is a comedy,
delivers a classic message about setting priorities in ones life. Quite often comedic actors and actresses are overlooked at award time. Why? Comedians are not perceived as serious actors.
However, it should be noted that these actors are completely serious in their intentions to deliver the messages inherent in their films. Groundhog Day is about a cynical weatherman
who has been told he must cover a story about a groundhog for Groundhog Day. His snide remarks and hurtful comments to people only serve to show what a self-serving
egocentric person he is. Fate steps in to hold a mirror up to his face as each day he wakes up, it is Groundhog Day all over again(Ramis). At
first, given his personality, he thinks that this twist in fate is a gift, a blessing. He sets out to take advantage of his windfall by lying, cheating, and stealing
from people because of his foreknowledge of events to come. Bill Murray does a fantastic job at showing how self-centered a person can become, how wrapped up in the trappings
of life one can become that one does not notice what is truly important. However, as the days wind on and on,
and each day is Groundhog Day, he slowly begins a transformation. He begins to realize how empty and shallow his life has been. Despondent he attempts to kill himself. Fate
