site ("Foreign direct investments net inflow, intra- and extra-ASEAN," 2009). While the figures may not seem very dismal, they do represent a decline over prior year figures to the tune
of 16.8 and 13.4 for the Asean 5 and the other countries respectively ("Foreign direct investments net inflow, intra- and extra-ASEAN," 2009). One has to wonder how CEOs and CFOs
of multinational corporations viewed FDI in 2008. After all, investments did fall off a bit. Obviously, the current economic crisis likely played a role. Still, it pays to do research
to determine just how heads of corporations did feel about the situation. Scott Bayman (2007) is a corporate officer for the General Electric Company and remarks about the investment situation
in Asia: "Well, I think that China has attracted a lot more foreign direct investment than India probably for a couple of reasons. One, China can make infrastructure happen very
quickly, so they can get a lot of money in it that way. I think China had a bigger need for funding when they started. When China started its reforms
it really was very dependent on foreign direct investment." It is suggested that Asia is in need of money but also that it is a good place to invest. While
China is admittedly a nation that is different from the ASEAN countries at issue, it is a regional factor in this investigation. The Chairman of PBEC noted that both China
