Dont," there are obvious ones that could be considered text-book examples of why good-to-great growth was or wasnt achieved. Companies such as Motorola (once a great company that allowed hubris
to choke its success) and Pan American Airways (once a leader in air travel, which ended up failing because of managements refusal to stay current with market trends) are very
good examples of how factors such as a lack of discipline and hubris can be destructive. But within Collins good-to-great discussion are companies
that, perhaps, havent had such dramatic falls (or turnarounds) as those that were once flying high and collapsed. One good example of such a company is Facebook Inc. headquartered in
Menlo Park, CA. On the surface, Facebook is not a likely candidate for one of Collins good-to-great discussions. This companys rise to the
top has seemed almost seamless, with millions logging on each day to connect with friends, play games and view photos and videos. Furthermore, the platform allows outside developers to build
apps that integrate with Facebook - and the company is preparing for what analysts believe could be Silicon Valleys largest ever initial public offering (Barr and Oreskovic, 2012). The company
is working toward raising $5 billion through its IPO, and valuation of the company is anticipated to be in the area of $75 billion to $100 billion (Barr and Oreskovic,
2012). Its anticipated the company will begin trading publicly in mid-2012 (Barr and Oreskovic, 2012). Given the fact that Facebook is still relatively
young (it was launched by Mark Zuckerberg in 2004) and given the fact its still growing and hasnt really had a chance to experience hubris or complacency at this time,
