Paradise, and The Great Gatsby, among others, were penned. Eyes that danced with secret humor, he would have said that there were damn few influences on him, but the ones
that there were, were enough. He of course was referencing some of those things about which he was most passionate: books, booze and Zelda. Most assume that Fitz was named
after his distant relative, Francis Scott Key who penned the Star Spangled Banner, but in fact, the distant relative was so distant that even Fitz more or less grinned at
the connection. His family, though, were insatiably proud of it, though, and so Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald was the legal name of F. Scott Fitzgerald. Many found too polite, it
can be said, to laugh at his father, Edwards, adherence to the values and traditions of the Old South, even though Fitzs growing up years didnt see him drop
below the Mason/Dixon line. Still, the pervading values and assumptions of the South were practiced in his childhood home. They moved quite a bit, traveling from St. Paul, Minnesota, New
York, then New Jersey (F.Scott, 2002). His family would love most to believe Francis Scott Fitzgerald was a bright and promising student, but the truth is, after father Sigourney
recognized and encouraged Fitzs literary talents, anything outside that parameter was not worth his time, attention or study, unless it was of an alcoholic nature. Those presumed to be his
most avid motivators for a few years. Finally, more because he didnt care to take any more of the pressure from his family, as likely as for any
