which he takes particular potshots at those who are indicative of eastern affluence. II. THE 1920s INFLUENCE TODAY The influence of the 1920s upon contemporary society has stood the
test of time in that women are just as materialistic today as they were nearly a century ago. Within the theme of The Great Gatsby, Daisy, as weak and
dependent as she may be, knows the power she has over men, 2 being the fair flower with whom everyone wants to spend time. Her appeal is fresh and
vibrant as a flower, hence the name chosen for her by the author; however, a brightly appealing as she might be on the outside, she harbors the flowers fragility upon
