have learned about sentence structure and the mechanics of writing. The teacher then explains that an expository paragraph is one that explains something. It provides information to the reader. For
example, you could explain what you like best about school or how you make a sandwich. The class brainstorms what they would write if they were to explain how to
get from the office to the classroom. The next step is to explain to students the steps in writing: prewriting, writing, revising, editing and publishing. * Prewriting may
involve brainstorming ideas, using graphic organizers like mind maps to organize ideas that will be included. * Writing involves the first draft of the paragraph or essay. The ideas
have already been jotted down or even put into an organizer. Translate the ideas to the document. Dont try to correct the first draft, just write it. * Revising:
After the first draft is written, read it over and decide how you want to revise it. This is the time to decide how to improve the text, where the
writing needs to be clearer or more interesting. Teach students to consider these questions: Does the reader need to know something that is not in the text in order to
understand it? Is the information presented in the best or most understandable order? Is there anything in the text that does not need to be there, it is not necessary
