necessary in order to adequately compete, organizations must strive not only to have competitive IT implementations, but to adopt competitive methodologies for developing, designing, and implementing IT. This is where
the systems development life cycle comes into play. Before the individuals steps of the cycle can be explored in depth, one must understand what the cycle itself is. As
the name suggests, the cycle loops on itself, such that it has no real ending, but rather returns to the first step in the process once the last step is
complete (Jain & Jain, 2011). This means, rather literally, that the process of systems development is never complete, but rather that systems must continuously grow and evolve in order to
meet the changing and evolving needs of the organization which they service (Jain & Jain, 2011). For organizations such as large multi-national corporations, this is particularly important. The first
step in the systems development life cycle is analysis. Systems are invariably developed in order to address a particular problem or need within an organization. For this reason, all development
cycles should begin with an analysis of the problem to be solved; at this stage, the details of the problem are identified, alternative solutions are suggested, and the costs and
benefits of the project are quantified. This surveying of the organizational landscape is essential to the development of a focused product. For instance, in a multinational corporate context, system developers
might carry out what is known as a "feasibility study"; a feasibility study is a study carried out to provide assurance that the potential benefits and return on investment delivered
by a system outweigh the costs and risks of the systems implementation (Franz, 1985). If a system does not pass a feasibility study, it should not be developed, but should
