information on using this paper properly! One of the few true revolutions to occur in the study of psychology was the development of Freuds psychodynamic perspective around the turn
of the 20th century. This perspective was one that would arguably look deeper into the mysteries of the human psyche than anyone had previously, and which also produced a number
of psychologys most enduring and compelling answers to the basic questions of personality and behavior. This paper will explore the views that fall into the category of psychodynamic approaches. This
paragraph helps the student explore Freuds foundational theory. To be sure, the psychodynamic perspective begins with Freud, whose psychoanalytic theory explores human behavior as the result of interpsychic conflicts between
internally-held subconscious desires and the inability to adequately express or satisfy those desires within the context of society (Glassman, 2011). In general, these conflicts are established through the individual attempting
to evade or repress some traumatic event, thereby pushing the issues to the subconscious, where they manifest in unusual ways (Glassman, 2011). This theory is excellent for explaining the seeming
divide between knowledge that is consciously known, and information which seems to be "under the surface"; however, there are certain scientific criticisms that can be made about a number of
Freuds tenets, most particularly the concept of recovered memories (Glassman, 2011). Individual psychological theory is an offshoot of Freuds perspective that was developed by Alfred Adler. Adler also believes
that behavior is motivated by unconscious factors, but he frames these as the struggle between innate feelings of inferiority stemming from childhood and a lifelong struggle to achieve "superiority" to
