which to provide useful qualitative measurements of the various dimensions associated with a psychological disorder. This paper will explore the utility of one such instrument, to provide a view as
to their general usefulness. Beck Depression Inventory This paragraph helps the student introduce the psychological instrument to be explored in the essay. For the purposes of this
paper, the researcher will examine the utility of the Beck Depression Inventory-II, a questionnaire that attempts to measure the subjective qualifications of clinical depression to assist in diagnosis as well
as in broader research applications when exploring the incidence of depression in various populations and in conjunction with other measurable factors. For instance, the instrument was used in a 2008
study by Uner and Ozcebe for "evaluating [the] relation between mental health of high school students and some socio-demographic properties and risky behaviors" (Uner & Ozcebe, 2008). The study examined
just under 500 students from the junior and senior grade levels, utilizing the Beck Depression Inventory-II to assess self-reported factors related to depression, and then those factors were subjected to
statistical analysis alongside the sociodemographic data to achieve the aims of the study. The statistical analysis revealed that the problem of depression, on average, increases with age, and that certain
factors such as "expressing [ones] health as bad or very bad... imposing violence", and so on, as "under more serious threat" of developing depression (Uner & Ozcebe, 2008). The usefulness
