point where more and more people are demanding accountability out of businesses for a variety of social ills. For example, businesses are now increasingly beholden to certain standards regarding the
environmental sustainability of practices, and so on. In such an environment, the truly proactive businesses are those which make the fulfillment of corporate social responsibility an integrated matter of policy
and strategy. If businesses strive to fulfill corporate social responsibility ahead of time, then the need for social accountability can be leveraged into an operational strength rather than a potential
liability. This paper will explore the concept of corporate social responsibility using a hypothetical scenario. This paragraph helps the student introduce the idea of corporate social responsibility. Corporate social
responsibility can take many forms in todays society. Some claim that an organization has no social responsibility beyond the need to generate a profit for shareholders (Friedman, 1970). However, a
