but that this dearth can impact lives directly through misunderstandings of abnormal psychology resulting in disorders going unrecognized and untreated. For instance, an individual with an anxiety disorder may well
not be regarded by his or herself or by his or her peers as someone in need of psychological treatment at all, and their symptoms may be merely attributed to
personal traits such as being "uptight" or "worrisome". This paper will explore the facets of anxiety disorder as an example of a psychological disorder that may escape public recognition.
This paragraph helps the student give the basics of anxiety disorder, to set up the rest of the paper. One of the main reasons that anxiety disorder is not commonly
recognized is that the experience of anxiety is often different from one individual to the next. As such, attempts to define the disorders can sound excessively vague in application; such
as "a sense of fear that disrupts daily functioning" (Shiraev & Levy, 2010). However, this generality is necessary to cover the many different ways in which the disorder can manifest.
For instance, it is possible for the disorder to manifest bodily, such that the individual will experience distressing physical symptoms of anxiety, such as fatigue or muscle tension, without (necessarily)
having a directly observable or predictable trigger for those symptoms (Shiraev & Levy, 2010). By the same token, symptoms might manifest psychologically, in the form of persistent worry or fixations
