This paper discusses Hitlers wartime experiences; Ernst Jungers experiences; and the arguments for and against reparations made by Keynes and Ferguson. Discussion Lessons from World War I: There are any number of things that Hitler could have learned from World War I that would have stopped him from waging a second war; unfortunately, Hitler loved war and where a more reasonable man might have looked at the carnage and vowed it would never happen again, Hitler seems to have been evaluating it from the viewpoint of how it could be improved. Smoter also wrote that Hitler that "propaganda played a large role in the German failure." He learned the value of propaganda and employed it extensively himself; his Minister of Propaganda, Joseph Goebbels, became one of the most powerful figures in the Third Reich.
