of the Sneads Ferry Library to provide a diverse selection of materials for the education and enjoyment of the local community. The Sneads Ferry Library will provide current material
as well as strive to preserve and promote the unique culture of the local area. Sneads Ferry is a small, commercial fishing village
on the coast of North Carolina. It is located on the mainland, on the Intracoastal Waterway. Between the Intracoastal and the Atlantic Ocean is Topsail Island, a barrier
island that has only a smattering of year-round residents but whose population grows by 20,000 during the summer months. On the other side of Sneads Ferry is Camp LeJeune,
a large Marine base near the much larger town of Jacksonville. The rest of the surrounding area is quite rural. There are relatively few libraries available in the
immediate area, and the larger city of Wilmington is more than an hours drive away. The community that the Sneads Ferry Library serves is more diverse than many.
There are several very small communities scattered throughout Onslow County, the large county in which Sneads Ferry is located. Holding only a few
hundred residents at best, these communities are far too small to be able to support a standalone public library. They welcome the idea of a bookmobile, particularly in light
of the fact it comes more to them than they have to travel to a novels-based library. Trustees believe that the idea of a bookmobile is a sound one
