to ascertain a baseline level of fitness, so that the planned exercise regiment will be tailored to specifically address that clients needs. There are three principal components to a prescribed
exercise regimen; cardiovascular (CV), flexibility and strength training (NCPAD, 2009). In evaluating CV fitness, measuring the clients maximum oxygen consumption (VO2max) is the preferred tool (NCPAD, 2009). For PD
clients, this is often accomplished using a recumbent stationary bicycle, as this allows the client to lean against the seat, while using the legs and, therefore, causes less strain on the
lower back and requires less in terms of balance (NCPAD, 2009). For a further description of fitness evaluation, the student should see the URL indicated on the reference page. As
the focus of the assignment is on the prescribed exercises, the wrier/tutor will skip to this section. A PD patient should engaged in aerobic exercise at least three times
per week for 30 minutes per session and an intensity level that is 60 to 75 percent of the clients maximum strength (NCPAD, 2009). This level will be established in
the fitness evaluation so that the client has an idea of what this intensity level means for him or her. In writing the students own essay, the student can refer
to the assignment prompt and call the client "Mr. Fox" or "Michael," if the student is so inclined. Walking is highly recommended for PD clients as it offers two
modalities from a therapeutic standpoint, first of all, walking provides aerobic exercise, but also, by observing the client, the therapist can offer advise on correcting the clients gait (NCPAD, 2009).
As pointed out by the NCPAD, the "use of instructional sets is a rehabilitation strategy, which may assist patients with PD" to improve their movement (NCPAD, 2009). When walking is
