grateful for the prosperity that God had shown him. However, Satan comes before God and if God should take away his fortune, his children, and his health that Job will
curse God (Ozick 16). Satan persuades God to test Job, who loses his all his wealth, his health, and, worst of all, he loses all of his children to
natural disaster. Jobs wife urges him to curse God, but -- even though Job complains that he has been mistreated -- he never takes this dire step. Men come
to offer their condolences, but also to argue with Job as to the cause of his misfortune. They feel that he must have done something against Gods commandments to merit
this misfortune. Job continues to profess his innocence. Gods voice appears to Job from a whirlwind. Awed before the majesty of God, Job accepts whatever God should deem necessary for
him, unequivocally accepting Gods actions and praising him. At this point, God restores to Job all that he lost, and he is blessed with more children. Date and location of
the writing of Job Ozick states that biblical scholarship varies on precisely when the Book of Job was written down (15). Estimates range anywhere from twenty-three hundred years ago to
twenty-five hundred years. Many scholars date the time and place of the recording of Job to the age of the Babylonian Exile, which followed the conquest of Jerusalem by Nebuchadnezzar
(Ozick 15). However, this differs from the setting given in Job. Job 1:1 states: "There was once a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job." Biblical scholarship
is unclear concerning where the "land of Uz" was in the ancient world, but the majority opinion appears to be that this was somewhere in Arabia. Authorship
