consists of the words of Job and his counselors, Job himself was not the author. Scholars are certain the author was an Israelite based on the his use of the
Israelite covenant name for God - Yahweh, which was in a number of places throughout the text. Scholars believe that the author was an inspired writer who had access to
both written and oral testimony (The NIV Study Bible 723; New American Bible 570). There are two dates involved: the historical setting, or, the date Job suffered and the
date of the writing. The writing of Job is thought to be any time beginning with the reign of Solomon up to the exile. Despite the author being an Israelite,
he does not mention Israelite history in the Book of Job. Instead, he has written only about the non-Israelite sage Job. The time of Job is set to have been
during the second millennium B.C., i.e., between 2000 and 1000, and is thought to probably have taken place during the latter part of this millennium (The NIV Study Bible 723).
Like other Hebrew patriarchs, Job lived to be more than 100 years old (see 42:16). His wealth was measured in cattle (see 1:3), and he acted as a priest
for his family (see 1:5). Other events in the Book of Job also fit into this time period, such as the raiding of Sabean (found in 1:15) and Chaldean (1:17)
