that focus upon other ethnic backgrounds besides American, which recognizes the ever-growing culturally diverse population attending American schools. It is because of this developing ethnic population that such programs
and celebrations are necessary, inasmuch as the academic environment is often the only place a child has the opportunity to learn tolerance toward and acceptance of other cultures besides his
own. We understand your concern over what appears to be the homogenization of traditional American holidays and other celebratory dates, especially when considering the multicultural composition of your own
family and how you risked your life to protect those very American ideals. In the effort to better demonstrate the great need our society has for once again becoming
