stories that tells part of the tale of Excalibur. The following paper examines Excalibur in Whites story as well as other stories. Excalibur in The Once and Future
King The student requesting this paper asks many questions regarding the role and significance of the sword, Excalibur, in Whites novel. It should be understood that many of the things
asked by the student do not necessarily apply to the story by White and as such the student should be aware that their inquiries will not necessarily be fully addressed
herein. In relationship to when the sword first arrives in Whites book it could well be assumed by some that the sword called Excalibur may well be the sword
he pulled from the stone in light of the fact that there is really no place in the book wherein the sword in the stone leaves and another sword becomes
Arthurs. However, it could also well be that the sword that was in the stone was simply relocated somewhere and Arthur obtained Excalibur as his sword, the sword of the
King. The sword in the stone had words on it that stated "Whoso Pulleth Out This Sword of this Stone and Anvil, is
Rightwise King Born of All England" (White 201). And previously to Arthur pulling the sword out, there is information that suggests the sword in the stone was not necessarily a
