might do something like the following. Discussion The central event of African-American experience, even after all this time, has to be slavery. Being forcibly removed from our ancestral home and
brought to America in chains has forever changed the way we think of ourselves and others. How can it not? For hundreds of years whites justified enslaving blacks by telling
us that we were inferior at the same time they told themselves that they were superior. These statements, repeated often enough, come to be believed by those involved, and it
takes a great deal of time to get over the psychological effects of such myths. One of the issues we face as blacks in America today is that of interracial
marriage. Until fairly recently, mixed marriages were illegal in several states; they are now a bit more common but still unusual enough to attract a great deal of attention. One
source suggests that while the decision to marry a white person must of necessity be a personal one, there are things that should be of concern to both parties (Middleton,
1997). First, Middleton suggests, because there is no real equality between the white and black races, there can be no such thing as an equal partnership in a mixed-race marriage
