This paper will argue that sufficient evidence exists to support the contention that global warming is real, and that it is caused by human activity. Discussion One of the first
things any student has to learn is how to narrow down a topic. Its impossible to write a short paper that would do justice to a topic as broad as
"the environment"; books have been written that only scratch the surface. The student should pick one aspect of the environment in which hes interested and concentrate on that. It could
be global warming, air pollution, acid rain, soil erosion, air quality, increasing number of storms, famine, drought-the list is virtually endless. But since it is a current issue, the student
could concentrate on global warming; in particular, whether its real or not, whether or not it is caused by human activity; and what can be done about it. Is it
real? According to a survey of 3,146 scientists done in , "[H]uman-induced global warming is real," but there are significant differences of opinion as to how much of it
is due to human activity (Surveyed scientists agree global warming is real, 2009). The scientists have found that in the past 200 years, the mean temperature of the planet has
been rising, and "human activity is a significant contributing factor in changing mean global temperatures" (Surveyed scientists agree global warming is real, 2009). There were two key questions in
the survey: first, have temperatures risen in the last 200 years; second, has human activity contributed to this increase (Surveyed scientists agree global warming is real, 2009). Ninety percent of
