the next. For instance, the volunteers at a YMCA are almost certain to face different responsibilities and challenges than the volunteers at the Red Cross. Red Cross volunteers, in
particular, are known for often having to undergo rigorous training in order to be of use in the organizations disaster relief efforts. The organization provides this training free to volunteers,
sometimes enabling the volunteers to become certified in critical disaster relief skills such as CPR administration, or basic EMT services. These volunteers are then asked to participate directly in relief
efforts at the sights of disasters such as New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina, or in Haiti, following the recent earthquake. By contrast, the efforts of the YMCA ad Boys and
Girls Club are more localized. The YMCA runs facilities across the country which provide access to sports, recreation, and counseling for the communitys individuals, often at a reduced or no
cost. They also provide services for the homeless. Consequently, YMCA volunteers might be needed to maintain equipment, to clean the grounds, to work with the homeless, or even to act
as coaches and instructors. At the Boys and Girls Club, volunteers are needed to oversee the after-school activities of urban boys and girls. They might share many responsibilities with YMCA
volunteers, but also be required to do things like pick up groups of kids from nearby schools and transport them to the appropriate Boys and Girls Club facilities.
