Markoff published an article about the maturing of Microsoft, highlighting its evolution from one level of maturity to the next. Microsoft managers say that the company has not been
as arrogant toward customers as customers believed it to be, but that a meeting in 2002 essentially changed the course for the company and named the customer as one of
the leading considerations for the company. Looking Ahead Bill Gates first published The Road Ahead in the mid-1990s, and it is gratifying now
to read the book and realize how many of his predictions for the future truly occurred during the latter years of the 1990s. That Gates could see five or
six years into the future can be impressive, but the fact that he looks beyond that point also affects the reader in other ways. If Gates has been able
to foretell what was future at the time of writing but is only a matter of history now, then we can be more certainly assured that at least some of
his other predictions will be on track as well. Gates topic is the Internet, and all of his discussion in the book relates
to information and its use, dissemination, storage and possible abuse of it. Gates does stress that we need to develop another method of examining issues, however. In Innovation
and the General Manager, Christensen (1999) also focuses on change and innovation, but from the perspective of managing and coordinating it for greatest effectiveness. Managements Four Functions
