Three women, a house and some quilts define the complex nature of personal heritage, and its value in life, as well as its value within a family. Mama Mama, is the storyteller, or narrator, of this story; she describes herself as "a large, big-boned woman with rough, man-working hands." In your notes you said that you wanted Mamas dominant trait to be the way that she values her heritage above all else. Even though she appears a simple woman, her character is complex. Her singular size might lead us to think that Mama has one dominant quality, and that is indeed the way she first appears. However we will soon see that she has many qualities, which add to her strength of character. Her strength of character allows her to value her heritage in the way she does.
