It is this second method of judgment that can result in jealousy, envy and spite. Spite is a malicious emotion and is felt when we find ourselves lacking when undertaking a comparison to someone else and as a result have an ill will towards the person to whom we do not measure up. This may be the desire to see others unhappy so that the person is the only happy person, and taking pleasure from that others misfortune. However, this is not the same as jealousy, even if it originates with jealously. Jealously can manifest in many ways, the feeling of inadequacy when measuring themselves against, however, just thinking that someone may deserve bad luck is not spite, Equally, jealously may lead to other reactions, there may be resentment, but there may also be admiration and the wish for that person to do well, the feeling may be directed inward or outward. Jealously is felt when there is a comparison that is not seen as favourable this may or may not lead to spite.
