that adopts it. There are few places where Euthanasia is legal. In the Netherlands it was decriminalised many years ago, however, it is only recently that it has become legal.
This last step occurred in 2000 (Gerrard, 2001). This can be used by patients that have a terminal disease and find their lives unbearable. When we look at this as
a potential model we can ask several questions in order to assess the way in which it operates. For example is the system based on morally sound reasoning, are there
safeguards against abuse, and should this system be applied to other countries such as the US. The Christian political leaders that are in the country would oppose the argument that
the system is morally sound, they had opposed the legalisation of the measure for the past thirty years (CBS, 2002). If we consider the fact that there are also
plans by some parties to bring about even more controversial plans, such as a suicide pill available for people who are simply feed up of life, which is supported by
the Health Ministers party; Democrats 66 (CBS, 2002). Here we may see the application of the argument of many who would oppose the introduction of euthanasia under any circumstances,
as it is seen as the opening of a door that can then lead to other controversial and positional immoral bills and measures being allowed. However, when the law
was passed it formalised the practice that had been accepted since the decriminalisation in 1993 (CBS, 2002). There are strict guidelines, and if these are not followed any doctor
