Wantz, the names now go on and on to total fifty-one people that have died with the aid of Dr. Jack Kevorkian. Often referred to as Dr. Death, Dr. Kevorkian had become world renown in the last seven years because of his persistent participation on physician-assisted suicide of terminally-ill patients. To date he is responsible for the deaths of fifty-one people. Who is this man? What makes him tick? What does he think the first thing he wakes up in the morning or the last thing at night before he goes to sleep? To understand Dr. Kevorkian it is best to look back in time at the man who would become Dr. Death at a time before he had participated in his first physician-assisted suicide. It is good to see the man without his fame and without his callous, to see the man when he first became a doctor. To understand his excitement and to see him as he explores death, literally, through the eyes of his patients. To do this it is most appropriate to start on the night shift at the Detroit Receiving Hospital. Our host on this journey is Michael Betzold, author of Appointment With Dr. Death, in which he rivets our attention to Dr. Kevorkian as he was at an earlier time, a time before all the controversy, a time before all the death.
