The word Euthanasia originated from the Greek language. The prefix "eu" means good and "thanatos" pertains to death. Hence, the meaning of the word is the intentional termination
of life by another at the explicit request of the person who dies. Typically, the term euthanasia implies that the person who wishes to commit suicide must initiate the act.
However, some definitions of euthanasia include both the voluntary and involuntary termination of life (Our Right to Choose, 2001). Like so many moral/ ethical terms, euthanasia has many
meanings, and the result is ultimately mass confusion. This essay will examine a number of facets relevant to this issue and whether or not it should be deemed a criminal
act. "Whose life is it, anyway?" This was the plea made by the late Sue Rodriguez, a high profile terminally ill resident
of British Columbia, Canada who suffered from ALS. Later, in violation of Canadian law her physician assisted her in committing suicide. Studies reveal that most people in North America die
what may be termed a "bad" death. In fact, one study found that "More often than not, patients died in pain, their desires concerning treatment neglected, after spending 10 days
