mentioned, due to foot-and-mouth disease which is, in all honesty, not a condition that is lethal nor even dangerous to humans. It is, in essence, nothing more than a cold
or a flu. It debilitates the cattle for a short while and then the animals are fine, with no residue that would harm humans in meat or milk. But, as
Sullivan (2001) noted, "The only problem with foot-and-mouth disease is that it weakens the infected animals for a period of time, lowers their milk production and weight somewhat, and, because
there are international bans on exports from infected regions and countries, prevents their sale for exportation" (p. 8). So, because of this economic pressure, the cattle are killed. And, in
the end, it seems that the economic conditions they were trying to avoid have only worsened because of their action to destroy the contaminated cattle. As we saw, it was
