for sure. There is speculation by some that he did not even exist, that any work credited to him was actually written by several mathematicians (Math is Good for You,
2005). For the most part, however, it is generally believed that he existed and he was great. The following paper examines the life and works of Euclid of Alexandria.
Euclid of Alexandria Euclid of Alexandria is believed to have been born around 325 BC (Euclid of Alexandria, 2005). According to another he was born around 300 BC (San
Francisco University, 2005). And still yet another author states he was born around 365 BC (Russell, 2005). There are also various possibilities when speaking of the year of his death.
Clearly there is not a lot of proof to go on as to when he was born, and while this would not affect what we generally know about him, in
this case it is an indication of how little is truly known to be true regarding Euclid of Alexandria. It is believed that he may well have "become educated at
Platos Academy in Athens, or possibly from some of Platos students" (Russell, 2005). In another example of how little is known, one
author notes that, "the most usually presented idea - that Euclid was an ordinary mathematician/scholar, who simply lived in Alexandria and wrote his Elements - a book which was as
popular as Bible until the 19th century" (Math is Good for You, 2005). Although little is known about him it is generally agreed that he is the author of "The
Elements" and that he taught in Alexandria. However, there is also a general understanding that there were two popular Euclids in the time period in Alexandria, and that Euclid was
