composed of a variety of peoples, but immigrants do tend to gravitate towards cities of which New York is one. They do this because they are more accepted there. It
is easier to acclimate, travel and make new friends. Outlying areas are not as accepting and the cities have the housing and job opportunities that the country does not. Thus,
cities are generally flooded with people from other nations and parts of those cities take on a new ambiance. Little Italy and Chinatown are just a couple of examples of
how cities take on the characteristics of its new inhabitants. In exploring the social, political, and economic histories of immigrant groups in the United States, and in looking at
a variety of peoples, one can see that different races and ethnicities tend to push the people in one direction or another. Crime seems to be associated with many immigrant
groups, but in part, this may be attributable to the fact that the assimilation process is hard for those of various backgrounds. Prejudice does keep people of different races and
ethnicities down, and this is especially true of the black man who never immigrated to America, but was rather forced to live in the nation. Unlike groups that came over
with money, Africans came without even clothes on their backs. They were chained and shackled. Others came for a better life, but it seems that there is conflict whenever any
of these groups are discussed. It also appears that some groups are more likely to make progress in America. Assimilation is possible, at least eventually. New immigrant groups that are
