disputes between management can be settled, however the trial with a panel of employees and management was not a total success, with the panel often overruling the management, creating internal
difficulties as employees were reinstated under managers who felt their authority had been undermined. There may be the desire to have a system that is ethical and fair, but to
assess the potential implementing the ethical issues of the situation have to be considered. Employers have a responsibly to their employees, both morally and in law, there is a
duty of care and they are expected to act in a fair manner. This case is one that may be seen as relating to the concept of duty, and how
those duties can be carried out. The employer is in a position of power, as are management; and they have a duty to behave fairly to their employees. It
may also be argued that there is an ethical duty to the shareholders, as they are the owners of the business, and looking at the ideas of theorists such as
Friedman, this is an ethical duty that should be seen as a primary duty. According to Freidman the duty of management to shareholders and the only other ethical duties are
those which are required for business, these include legal requirements and the standards demanded by customers or actions which may add value (Chyssides and Kaler, 1999). In this model to
undertake an action for altruistic reasons only is a waste of resources. It is possible that were employees feel that they are fairly treated and are empowers,
and where there are measures in place that the employees feel that the employer cares there is also likely to be the creation and support of positive behavioural traits that
