there is affirmative action or the idea that the playing field needs to be level, that one needs to take race into account in order to deal with inequality, and
then there is a third way to approach equality. Another way to look at employment decisions is that people are all different and do all have different wants, needs,
objectives and desires. The needs of a young mother with children in school may be very different from the needs of a middle aged man with no family commitments.
If the mother must take time off from work due to the fact that she is staying home with an ill child, should she be given more consideration that a
middle aged man who calls in sick on Monday mornings, likely due to a hangover? How are things to be considered? What is fair? Finally, can a business both
treat people equally and recognize and respond to individual needs in the workplace? The first approach, of trying to treat everyone the same is usually thought of in terms
of the equal opportunities approach, and tends to lead one to a view that everyone should be treated equally. Thus, in selection, interviewers may ask every candidate exactly the
same questions so as not to give any individual special treatment or advantage. Treating everyone the same can be thought of as a form of justice termed procedural justice,
