corporate culture is conducive to positive growth. This is true no matter who is in charge, and this is an idea supported by many theorists. That said, in order for
such a culture to flourish, leadership is of the utmost importance. Ethical leaders will create ethical workplaces. Of course, this is true only to an extent. After all, leaders can
influence organizations, but there are some things that are not in control of the leader (DuBrin, 2006). Even so, ethics in the organization is something that is clearly influenced by
leaders. How leaders treated their underlings is very important as it sets the tone for the entire organization. In examining this issue, two articles will be compared and contrasted. Quaquebeke
& Eckloff (2010) look at the issue of respect while Toor & Ofori (2009) examine a number of issues that create an ethical workplace. Both articles focus on studies that
provide similar information, but each has its own particular perspective. Quaquebeke & Eckloff (2010) write about respectful leadership. Authors report that "studies regarding the effects of interpersonal respect at the
workplace are triangulated by research on work values" (345). The study focuses on leaders and how their ethics affect the entire workplace. Different qualities of leadership and behaviors are
explored. Authors explain that one part of good leadership is to ensure that their subordinates do not lose face in the public arena (Quaquebeke & Eckloff, 2010). In other words,
these authors look at respect and align it with the ethical treatment of others in the workplace inclusive of subordinates and peers. Toor & Ofori (2009) on the other
hand look at ethical leadership by examining ethical leadership in the context of one particular industry. Authors associate successful ethical leadership with certain practices and leadership styles. Toor & Ofori
