is something that has cropped up in many instances. The National Organization of Human Service Educators for example explicitly suggests avoidance of the dual relationship so that the risk of
harm to clients is minimized ("National Organization of Human," 2003). A scenario for this ethical dilemma might be that a patient of a counselors turns out to be a friend
of her daughter. Although this is not known to her at the start, the fact that the patient might discuss information about the therapists daughter suggests that the counselor should
terminate therapy and refer the client to another counselor. Professional competence is sometimes a problem. In a scenario depicting this dilemma, a therapist is doing past life regression. Another
professional in the field, who is acquainted with this doctor questions that validity of the practice. The code of ethics posted on the board of the American Counseling Association says
that counselors should only practice within "the boundaries of their competence, based on their education, training, supervised experience, state and national professional credentials, and appropriate professional experience." Clearly, in this
case, the therapist is using techniques for which he or she is not really licensed nor properly trained. Confidentiality is a significant issue and it is well known that therapists
are supposed to protect the records of clients. Due to the law, in addition to ethical boundaries, clients records often cannot be released even during criminal cases. A situation arises
