The increasing requirements of the HRM manage increase the complexities of the job, with the need to balance conflicting needs. One of the issues is that of ethics, this is of increasing concern in terms of corporate governance and the way a firm is seen in the public eye as well as the requirement to comply with relevant legislation. A key strategic as well as operational aspect of the human resource department is that of recruitment, both internal and external. There are numerous legal requirements which may vary depending on the jurisdiction (McKendrick, 2008), and where a firm is seen as acting in a fair manner, recruiting may be easier, there is also the potential for a higher trust relationship to develop, and if the employer is seen as ethical there is likely to be greater trust and a better employment relationship in the way that the employment relationship result in motivates staff and the manifestation of positive behavioural traits such as loyalty and high productivity (Huczynski and Buchanan, 2007; Bell, et al, 2006; Mikula, 1980). To consider how this is relevant in recruitment we can look at the concept of ethics and then look at ways in which there may be unethical behaviour and the approaches that may be used to reduce the potential for unethical behaviour, which may be purposeful or even subconscious. The definition of ethics is "a system of moral principles", and the definition of morals is "of, pertaining to, or concerned with the principles or rules of right conduct or the distinction between right and wrong" (Dictionary.com. 2010).
