Jim Hackett, CEO of Anadarko Petroleum, claimed that BP had made very poor decisions (Sherwell, Hannaford & Quinn, 2010). The information that is emerging indicates that BP executives knew
they were taking a lot of risks and that there were warning signs before the disaster (Sherwell, Hannaford & Quinn, 2010). A lot of criticism has been waged at BP
executives. In fact, when Haywood, the man who was overseeing operations in the United States turned up enjoying himself on a boat trip, criticism was at an all time high.
Haywood claims it was a rare moment of leisure (Sherwell, Hannaford & Quinn, 2010). Yet, Haywood was replaced by Robert Dudley, a Mississippi native (Sherwell, Hannaford & Quinn,
2010). It was not only the trip that rendered a wary public in light of all that had gone on. Haywood was seemingly evasive in his commentary in front of
Congress as well (Sherwell, Hannaford & Quinn, 2010). He did not seem to be taking the situation seriously. BP is being investigated because of the accident, but many other
unpleasant things have surfaced. Sherwell, Hannaford & Quinn (2010) report: "Bart Stupak, the Democrat chairman of the House investigations panel that held the hearing, suggested that the oil giants safety
record could justify barring it from doing business in the US, citing a string of accidents, some deadly, at BP-operated facilities." The newly revealed information is seemingly so compelling that
BP is now entering a new chapter in this troubling saga. The newly acquired information suggests that BP will lose a lot of clout. Its stock prices will likely fall.
Its future is certainly in jeopardy. There is speculation that BP "could lose control over oil fields, refineries, and pipelines across the US" (Sherwell, Hannaford & Quinn, 2010).
