an ethical approach should be defined as being. Two different models which embody these differences of the shareholder wealth maximization model, as advocated by Milton Friedman, where an organizations primary
responsibility is the shareholder, and the corporate wealth maximization model, where it is argued organization should be adopting a stakeholder approach, shareholders us to a primary stakeholder but they are
not the only stakeholder. When judging the way that many multinational corporations undertake the ethical and social responsibility strategies there appears to be a performance-based motivation, as seen with companies
such as Royal Dutch Shell, Wal-Mart and Qantas. Many of the strategies may benefit society, such as saving energy, recycling and undertaking charitable work, but in all instances it also
appears to have a beneficial impact on the reputation of the companies, or an absence of those strategies may have a detrimental impact on their reputations. Of the three models
put forward by Basu and Palazzo, (2008), stakeholder driven, performance driven and motivation driven, it appears that it is the stakeholder driven model that is most difficult to find.
Text It may be argued to multinational corporations ( MNCs) have some important social and ethical responsibilities due to their position of
influence; they are able to influence markets, suppliers and in some cases may even have a potential influence over governments and administrations. There are strong arguments that any organization which
